They’ll be driving for the next sixty years so now’s the time to make sure safety is top-of-mind.

Guests:  Robyn Robertson, President, and CEO of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) and Tim Baillie, retired Fire Chief from Surrey, British Colombia

Choosing the Right Driving School

All driving schools are not equal, even though they may be listed on government websites.  Many teens just want their license so they might be lured by schools that promise high drive test pass rates.   This episode helps you select a school that will properly prepare your teen to drive safely on all kinds of roads and in various conditions.

Best Cars for Teens

Your teen would probably opt for a sportscar or a pickup truck.  You might choose an old clunker (because the scratches won’t matter) or a mini car that would limit distracting passengers.  But what vehicles are really best for teens?  Becca Weast, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) provides tips to help you figure it out.

Guest:   Becca Weast, Researcher from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS.org)
NOTE:  The video version of this episode includes crash test videos that demonstrate that vehicle size matters and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is a must-have feature.  Listeners can check out the videos at IIHS.org

Must-Have Discussions about Alcohol and Drowsy Driving

Young adults are good at getting a designated driver or using ride share services when they party, but are they safe to drive the next morning?  Are you sure they have a plan to get home if they make a mistake?

They also have long days and often don’t get enough sleep.  Falling asleep at the wheel is not only dangerous, it’s deadly.  This episode will help you help them understand the dangers and make sure they always have a safe ride home.

Host:     Anne Marie Hayes, President of non-profit Teens Learn to Drive Inc.
Guest:   Pete Wytka, Executive Director of Arrive Alive Drive Sober

Must-Have Discussions about Cannabis and Driving

Many teens view riding with a high driver as a safe choice.  In fact, many teen drivers believe they drive better when they’re high because they feel more focused.  This episode will give you the facts to help your teen make safe choices when they drive or ride as a passenger.

Do You Know Who They’re Riding With?

Passengers are at the same or higher risk than drivers.  You’re investing time and money in making sure your teen understands the responsibility of driving and makes safe choices.  But does their friend, cousin or date have the same commitment?  Here are some tips to empower them and make sure their driver is committed to bringing them home safely every time.
