How to Drive a Car:  Backing Up

An empty mall parking lot would be a perfect location to practice how to drive and to try various turns.  A great part to add to your Drivers Ed checklist is to practice backing up into parking spaces.  After each attempt get out of the car and see how you are positioned in the space.

 Knowing how to back up is necessary when you learn how to drive a car.  Here are some tips for Backing Up:

• Steer in the direction you want the back of the car to go
• Turn your head so you’re looking where you want to go (over your right shoulder to see the back of the car)
• Hover your foot over the brake so you can stop quickly
• Do not use your gas pedal
