DISTRACTED DRIVING SAFETY

It’s Friday night and you are on your way to the girl’s night you have been planning forever. Your work meeting ran longer than you expected and now you’re running late. You decide it’s a good idea to finish applying your makeup while driving. Well, it’s not. Texting, talking on the phone, reaching for something and applying makeup are all considered distracted driving.

Drivers who engage in such distractions are more likely to be in a crash or near collisions event compared with non- distracted drivers. In particular, applying makeup while driving makes you more than 3 times more likely to crash. Individuals are also 23 times more likely when texting, 9 times more likely when you are reaching for am moving object and 5 times more likely when talking on the phone. According to CAA, 80% of collisions and 65% of near crashes have some form of driver inattention as contributing factors. Keep both hands on the wheel at all times and focus all your attention on the road. One thing at a time is more efficient and a lot safer for yourself, your passengers, pedestrians and all those on the road.
