Distracted Driving Greatly Increases Risk of Death and Serious Injuries

Today’s generation of young drivers is especially prone to distractions, which often lead to death and serious injuries on the road. The use of digital communications and navigation technology is at an all-time high, and with so many youth connected to their electronic devices through social media, entertainment apps, games and more, the risk of checking phones or tablets while driving is at an unprecedented level.

It is important to know the dangers of distracted driving, as a quick text message or social media scroll could mark the end of your life and other drivers’ around you as well. To put this into perspective, when travelling at 90 kilometres per hour, sending or reading a text message is the equivalent of driving the length of a football field with your eyes closed. That is a long way to drive with no vision of where you’re going. New drivers often underestimate the importance of keeping their eyes on the road at all times.

Teens Learn to Drive (TL2D) is on a mission to eliminate all forms of distracted driving and other dangerous habits behind the wheel. To learn more about keeping our roads safe, visit the TL2DToday YouTube channel and listen to ‘Before You Hand Over the Keys’, a podcast for parents, grandparents, guardians with new drivers, learning drivers, or soon-to-be drivers.
