Canada Day is a National Statutory holiday celebrated in all the provinces and territories in Canada. Being Canadian is something to be very proud of, and as such, should be celebrated all weekend long. It is important to remember to always celebrate responsibly.
Every year, between 1250 and 1500 Canadians are killed and more than 63,000 injured in impaired driving-related crashes. These significantly increase on long weekends and throughout the summer. Canada day is a double whammy as it is both a long weekend and in the summer. Take extra precautions and always plan ahead.
Highways are busier on long weekends as there are many people commuting to parties, homes, and cottages to celebrate. This puts everyone at a higher risk of being in a collision. Stay alert, and if you get tired, take a nap in a safe place or pass the driving off to a passenger who is licensed.
No matter where you’re going, what you’re doing, or who you’re seeing, they will always rather you arrive late than not show up at all because you got in a car crash from trying to be there on time.
